Is Frank the Next Mike?

As those of you who know your Canadian history are well aware, Lester (Mike) Pearson held the post of Canadian Ambassador to Washington some years before he became Prime Minister of Canada.
The ever humble Pearson rebuilt a demoralized Liberal party after the 1957-58 defeats, and (with some help) turned it into the highly-successful political and legislative architect of much of what we now love about Canada.

Canadians liked Mike because he was a lot like them - hard-working, honest, and always ready to make his country better. And his government left a profound legacy - medicare, the CPP, official bilingualism, a greater sense of the equality of all Canadians, and a proud standing in world affairs.

Now, Canadians have a chance to select the next Mike Pearson. And his name is Frank McKenna.

This rather unassuming (and unorganized - you should see my desk) blog has been created to help encourage Frank McKenna, Canada's current ambassador to the United States, to enter into the Liberal leadership race, and become Canada's next Mike.

In the months ahead, I will be posting my thoughts on this rather intriguing possibility, and I encourage others to join in. Moosehead drinkers unite, it's time to put one of our own in 24 Sussex.

As they say in Chatham Head, Let's just give-er!
